Tubal Ligation

Tubal ligation, commonly known as "getting your tubes tied," is a surgical procedure for female sterilization. It involves cutting, tying, or sealing the fallopian tubes to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus for fertilization.

Reasons for Tubal Ligation

Women may choose tubal ligation for various reasons, including:

  • Permanent Birth Control:

    • For women who are certain they do not want more children.

  • Medical Reasons:

    • To prevent pregnancy in women with health conditions that make pregnancy risky.

  • Family Planning:

    • As a long-term solution for family planning.

Procedure for Tubal Ligation

At MMC IVF, we perform tubal ligation using advanced surgical techniques to ensure safety and effectiveness. The procedure includes:

  • Laparoscopy:

    • It is a minimally invasive surgery using a small camera and instruments inserted through tiny incisions in the abdomen.

  • Mini-Laparotomy:

    • A small incision made in the abdomen, often used postpartum.

  • Hysteroscopic Sterilization:

    • A non-surgical method where a device is inserted through the cervix to block the fallopian tubes.

Recovery from Tubal Ligation

Recovery from tubal ligation is generally quick, with most women returning to normal activities within a few days. Common post-procedure experiences include:

  • Mild pain or discomfort at the incision site

  • Fatigue

  • Light vaginal bleeding

Reversal of Tubal Ligation

While tubal ligation is considered a permanent form of birth control, reversal is possible in some cases. At MMC IVF, we offer tubal ligation reversal for women who wish to conceive again. The reversal procedure includes:

  • Microsurgical Tubal Reanastomosis:

    • Reconnecting the severed or blocked segments of the fallopian tubes using microsurgical techniques.

Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART)

For women who are not candidates for tubal ligation reversal or prefer an alternative, we offer Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) such as:

  • In Vitro Fertilization (IVF):

    • Bypassing the fallopian tubes entirely to achieve pregnancy.
